The East Agartala police have successfully arrested four notorious thieves and recovered stolen gold ornaments along with a stolen vehicle during an operation on Sunday. The arrests follow an intensive investigation and are expected to provide more insights into the gang’s operations, said East Agartala Police OC Rana Chatterjee.
The case dates back to February 1, when a gang of thieves broke into SK Jewellers at Kamar Pukur Para, looting gold, valuables, and cash. The shop owner, Swapan Kumar Banik, filed a complaint, which led to a police probe. Additionally, another complaint had been filed regarding a stolen vehicle, prompting further action from the police.
Following multiple raids, the police apprehended the suspects Babul Dutta, Uttam Sarkar, Joynal Hossain, and Mithun Madrazi, all of whom admitted to their involvement in the theft. The stolen gold ornaments and the vehicle were recovered from their possession. The police further revealed that the stolen car was intended to be used in future heists, and CCTV footage played a key role in tracing the vehicle.
The police are continuing their investigation, which could potentially reveal more details about the criminal gang’s operations.
