The Panipat Police arrested four individuals for allegedly murdering a youth in Hari Nagar during Holi by stabbing him. The four accused were produced in court on Friday, which sent three — Pramod, alias Vikkal, Abhishek, and Sonu — to judicial custody, while Sagar was remanded to one-day police custody.
The accused include Sagar, Pramod, Sonu (all residents of Hari Nagar), and Abhishek, a resident of Agra Cantt currently living in Billu Colony, Panipat.
The victim, 26-year-old Rohit from Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh, was stabbed to death. According to Mohit Singh, Rohit’s brother, he, Rohit, and their cousin Amit were on their way to a relative’s house to celebrate Holi when they encountered four youth on a motorcycle driving rashly. Although the initial altercation was resolved, a group of five to six youths later arrived at the relative’s house, stabbed Rohit with a sharp weapon, and attacked them with bricks.
Taking serious note of the incident, Superintendent of Police Bhupender Singh assigned the case to the CIA-1 unit. CCTV footage showed the miscreants arriving on a Scooty and a motorcycle. Acting on a tip-off, the CIA-1 team arrested all four accused Thursday night from Barsat Road.
During preliminary inquiry, the accused admitted committing the crime after the motorcycle altercation. Police also recovered the motorcycle and Scooty used in the attack.
