Four Arrested During T20 Match in Ahmedabad

Online betting at Narendra Modi Stadium

The Chandkheda Police on Wednesday arrested four individuals for allegedly engaging in online betting during the T20 World Cup match between South Africa national cricket team and Afghanistan national cricket team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera.

In the first incident, Satkar Dipkumar Shah (38), a businessman from Gandhinagar, was detained from Block 7, Bay 1 (Upper) at approximately 4.35 pm for allegedly placing live bets through a mobile application. Police seized his phone and captured screenshots as evidence.

Rahul Bulani (28), a resident of Ulhasnagar, was apprehended from the same block around 3.20 pm for allegedly using a separate betting application. His mobile phone was confiscated and relevant screenshots were secured.

Earlier in the day, Nitin Patel (40), a resident of Thaltej, was caught in Block F, Bay 2 (Lower) at around 2.40 pm for allegedly betting online during the match.

In a fourth case, Vishwadeep Jate (30), hailing from Anand district, was detained from an upper seating block for allegedly placing bets through a website.

All four accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Gujarat Prevention of Gambling Act. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to trace the origin of the betting IDs and determine whether the accused are linked to a larger betting syndicate.
