ROCK HILL, SC – Former York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson was arrested and charged after leaving the scene of a crash in Rock Hill on Sunday.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol took Tolson into custody and booked him into the York County Detention Center at 11 a.m. Monday morning. According to an arrest warrant, Tolson was involved in an accident on Airport Road where he hit a telephone pole and a fence before driving away from the scene.

Police later identified Tolson during their investigation. He was released on a personal recognizance bond.

Tolson served as sheriff after being elected in 2016 and 2020. He withdrew from the sheriff’s race in November 2024 and left office earlier this year in 2025.

Authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
