The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested former senator Waqar Ahmad Khan on December 11 in connection with a Rs6 billion fraud case involving a local housing society. His arrest took place at the Lahore High Court (LHC), following a series of legal tactics and dramatic standoffs.
The case centers on complaints from individuals who accused the housing society of embezzling funds collected for plots and houses that were never delivered. In response, NAB launched an investigation and sought Khan’s custody for further inquiry.
On December 10, NAB officials, supported by Punjab Police, attempted to arrest Khan at the LHC. However, the presence of his legal team and their argument that arrests cannot be made on court premises stopped the authorities.
The situation changed the following day when a division bench of the LHC, led by Justice Farooq Haider, rejected Khan’s protective bail plea. The court cited missing documents as one of the reasons for the dismissal, despite the defense’s assurance that the paperwork would be completed.
