OWASSO, Okla. — Bridget Vogt, former treasurer of the Owasso FFA Alumni group, is facing an embezzlement charge after investigators say roughly $101,000 went unaccounted for in the organization’s finances.
The Owasso FFA Alumni group supports students participating in Future Farmers of America events, programs, and opportunities.
Concerns arose when board members noticed treasurer reports did not match the group’s bank statements. An internal review revealed over 160 undocumented transactions, including numerous ATM withdrawals. Investigators said about $101,000 could not be traced.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Vogt admitted she was stressed and struggled to keep up with the records. She acknowledged the discrepancies in reports but did not confirm or deny taking the money.
Attorney Jamie Miller emphasized the importance of checks and balances in nonprofits. “Well-run nonprofits should be intentionally structured with layered oversight,” Miller said. “Financial controls, dual signing on checks, and separation of duties ensure one person does not control the money.”
The Owasso FFA Alumni board stated that stronger financial controls have now been implemented. Vogt’s attorney maintains there was no criminal intent and said the defense looks forward to addressing the allegations in court.
Vogt is scheduled for arraignment later this week.
