MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — Former NFL tight end Kevin Ware Jr. has pleaded guilty to the 2021 murder of his girlfriend, Taylor Pomaski, and was sentenced on Wednesday to 30 years in prison, according to court records.
Ware, 41, admitted to killing and burning Pomaski’s body, which was found months later in a ditch in north Harris County. The case drew national attention after Pomaski, 29, disappeared from Ware’s home in Spring, Texas, in April 2021, while Ware was out on bond for unrelated charges.
In a separate but connected legal outcome, Ware also received a 15-year concurrent sentence for drug and weapons charges he pleaded guilty to in December 2022, the same day his trial for those charges was set to begin.
The earlier charges originated from an April 2021 traffic stop, where Ware was clocked driving at 115 mph. A search of his vehicle revealed a loaded AK-47, multiple other firearms, and narcotics including cocaine and methamphetamine. As a convicted felon, Ware was prohibited from possessing firearms and was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Ware, a former Klein Oak High School standout, briefly played in the NFL, spending time with the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Football Team during his two-season career.
