WICHITA, Kan. — A former news anchor has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing her elderly mother to death in Wichita, authorities say.
Police responded to a “reported cutting” at a residence on Friday, Oct. 31, at around 7:52 a.m., according to a media release from the Sedgwick County Police Department (SCPD). Upon arrival, officers found 47-year-old Angelynn “Angie” Mock standing outside the home.
Inside, police discovered Mock’s 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. Avers was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.
Mock also received treatment at the hospital for undisclosed injuries before being taken into custody at Sedgwick County Jail. She was charged with first-degree murder on Oct. 31 and is being held on $1 million bond.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not disclosed a motive.
Mock previously worked as a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015 before transitioning into sales. At the time of her arrest, she was employed by a data management software company.
Details about her initial court appearance have not yet been released.
