POLAND, Maine — Justin Scott Martin, 31, a former Florida resident now listed as a transient, is facing multiple charges after allegedly committing an armed home invasion in Poland, Maine.
The incident took place on Monday night, just before 9:30 p.m., when the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office and Mechanic Falls Police responded to a reported break-in on Evergreen Drive. According to the victim, he was asleep when he heard a loud bang. Upon investigation, he found a masked man dressed in black standing on his front steps and another suspect inside the home attempting to manipulate a safe.
When the homeowner confronted one of the suspects, the man allegedly pointed a handgun at him. The victim was able to escape, running to a nearby neighbor’s house to call for help.
Police tracked down Justin Martin, one of the suspects, and took him into custody after finding a stolen handgun wrapped in a black ski mask near his location. Martin has been charged with:
Burglary
Robbery
Theft by receiving stolen property
Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person
Criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon
Criminal mischief
Martin was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail, where his bail was set at $10,000 with several conditions. Authorities are continuing their investigation, and the second suspect remains at large.
