Former singer and entertainer Tommy Yuen, 45, has been charged with theft following his arrest on 18 June at a Wellcome supermarket in To Kwa Wan. Authorities allege that Yuen stole 11 items—including soft drinks, snacks, and sweets—with a total value of approximately HK$140.

According to the Kowloon City District Police, Yuen was spotted acting suspiciously during a routine crime patrol on Ma Tau Kok Road and was detained for questioning before being arrested. Officers later discovered a credit card belonging to someone else in his possession. The card has since been returned to its rightful owner.

Yuen was released on bail in the early hours of 19 June, and his case is scheduled to be heard at the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts on 9 July.

In a Facebook post following his release, Yuen appeared to downplay the situation, joking, “Don’t worry, I slept soundly last night,” and highlighting the importance of keeping receipts after shopping. He shared a photo of snacks and drinks similar to those involved in the alleged theft and explained that the credit card belonged to a friend who had asked him to hold it.

This incident adds to Yuen’s growing list of legal troubles. In 2006, he was fined and had his license suspended following a drink-driving conviction. In 2021, he was fined for breaching COVID-19 regulations after being caught at an unlicensed bar. Most notably, in 2023, Yuen was convicted of incitement and money laundering tied to a fraudulent fundraising scheme, for which he served 26 months in prison.

The allegedly stolen items have not yet been recovered and remain in police custody as evidence.
