BOONVILLE, Mo. — The former executive director of Unlimited Opportunities, Inc. (UOI) has been accused of misappropriating more than $50,000 of the non-profit organization’s funds.
Jennifer J. Waibel, who served at UOI since March 1997 and became executive director in January 2011, was reportedly terminated on September 29, 2023, following an internal investigation.
Court documents indicate that Waibel allegedly spent $49,661.36 on credit cards and checks for unauthorized purposes. The allegations came to light after an anonymous tip to the Cooper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in early 2024, claiming that employees had been threatened with retaliation if they spoke about the matter.
Unlimited Opportunities, Inc. is partially funded by taxpayer money through the Cooper County Board of Sheltered Services (CCBSS). In April 2024, the Cooper County Prosecuting Attorney requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control to investigate the allegations.
Waibel has been charged with stealing $25,000 or more, and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.
