Md Faisal Ahmed, a former acting Ambassador of Bangladesh to Russia, has been arrested in the United Kingdom on charges of assault and issuing threats of rape.
Ahmed, who served as Bangladesh’s Charge d’Affaires in Moscow until recently, was taken into custody by West Midlands Police on December 16 in the Solihull area of Birmingham. He has since been released on bail pending further investigation.
Reports indicate that in May this year, Ahmed was recalled to Dhaka and removed from his diplomatic post. Instead of returning to Bangladesh, he traveled to the UK, where his wife resides at a rented property in Birmingham. He reportedly sought political asylum while living with his family.
The incident leading to his arrest stemmed from a dispute over the repair of a broken window at the property. A disagreement over the repair costs escalated, and Ahmed allegedly sent multiple threatening messages to the female homeowner, including references to sexual assault and the use of a firearm. The homeowner filed a complaint with police, triggering the investigation.
The Bangladesh High Commission in London has confirmed awareness of Ahmed’s arrest and is monitoring the situation.
Police investigations remain ongoing as authorities continue to examine the allegations.
