ABILENE, Kan. — Wanda O’Shields, a woman from Okeechobee, Florida, is in custody after allegedly cashing forged checks using stolen identification at a bank in Abilene, Kansas, and leading law enforcement on a multi-county chase.

The Abilene Police Department began investigating a theft report last Thursday at Astra Bank on Eagle Drive, where $6,000 was fraudulently obtained. Authorities believe O’Shields also passed forged checks earlier the same day at a bank in Belleville.

The following day, O’Shields returned to the Astra Bank drive-thru attempting to cash more fraudulent checks. Upon arrival of officers, she fled the scene, prompting a high-speed pursuit spanning Dickinson, Marion, and Harvey counties.

The chase ended when deputies from the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office successfully stopped O’Shields. She is currently held at the Sedgwick County Jail facing multiple forgery and theft charges.
