FORT MYERS, FL — Issac Giovani Sales, 18, was arrested on March 12 for his involvement in a crash that led to the death of 17-year-old Jaciey Dee Hogan. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Sales ran a red light at the intersection of Gladiolus Drive and Maida Lane, slamming into another car. Hogan, who was riding in Sales’ car, tragically lost her life in the crash, and the driver of the other car suffered serious injuries.
The crash has left Hogan’s family devastated, as they try to cope with the loss. Sylvia Johnson, Hogan’s grandmother, spoke of her grief, saying, “We miss her smile and her giggles,” adding that the pain from the loss would never go away.
Hogan was on her way to school when the accident occurred. Johnson recalled her last memory of Hogan, saying, “The last memory I have of her laying in the open casket… and I gave her a kiss and told her goodbye.”
After the crash, the family struggled to get information about Sales and whether he had been charged. But on Wednesday afternoon, they learned that Sales was arrested for vehicular homicide and reckless driving. Johnson expressed relief, stating, “I am really happy that something is being done because he had no regard for her life or anybody else’s.”
Sales now faces charges of vehicular homicide and reckless driving.
