A Florida man, identified as Lonnie Alexander, was arrested on Monday, April 28, after allegedly attempting to steal thousands of dollars in merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Shoppes at River Crossing in Macon, Georgia. The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. when Alexander left the store with nearly $3,000 worth of goods.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded quickly, and a brief foot chase ensued. During the chase, deputies tased Alexander and took him into custody.
In addition to the charges stemming from this theft, Alexander was found to have outstanding warrants in Macon-Bibb County for commercial armed robbery and theft by shoplifting. He now faces a series of serious charges, including armed robbery, felony theft by shoplifting, misdemeanor theft by shoplifting, conspiracy to commit a felony, criminal trespass, and two counts of willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.
Authorities have indicated that additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
