Florence Man Sentenced to Five Years for Firearm Possession in Drug Trafficking Case

David Antwan Johnson sentenced to 60 months in federal prison

FLORENCE, S.C. — David Antwan Johnson, 45, of Florence, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, authorities announced.

On December 22, 2022, a Florence County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop Johnson during a traffic stop. Johnson initially refused to pull over, then stopped and fled on foot.

During the pursuit, Johnson ran toward officers with a hand in his pocket. When detained, a loaded firearm fell from his pocket. Johnson admitted to possession of the weapon.

Investigators also found various drugs at the scene, including a marijuana blunt and approximately 26 grams of marijuana along the path Johnson fled.

Upon searching his vehicle, officers discovered about four grams of crack cocaine and approximately seven grams of cocaine divided into 30 bags. Johnson acknowledged the presence of cocaine and crack cocaine in his car.

Johnson was sentenced to 60 months (five years) in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Due to federal guidelines, there is no parole available.
