in a striking case of e-commerce fraud, Guwahati Police have arrested Soyeb Khan (27), a Flipkart delivery agent, for allegedly orchestrating a tech-savvy scam involving the theft of premium laptop processors. Khan, originally from Surat, Gujarat, was nabbed by personnel from the Paltan Bazar Police Station under the Guwahati Police Commissionerate.
Police reports indicate that Khan placed multiple fake orders for high-value laptop processors, each worth around Rs50,000. Leveraging his role as a delivery executive, he intercepted the packages upon arrival, discreetly opened them, and replaced the original processors with counterfeit units. He then falsely marked the deliveries as “customer not available,” enabling him to return the tampered packages to the warehouse without raising suspicion.
The scam came to light through internal monitoring, prompting a police investigation. Authorities revealed that four genuine processors had already been shipped to Surat, while four more were recovered from Khan’s possession in Guwahati. Additionally, police seized three fake processor units believed to have been used in the swap.
In a witty update, Guwahati Police referred to the arrest as an upgrade from “Delivery OS to Lock-Up v1.0,” highlighting the tech angle of the crime.
Khan is currently in custody, and police are exploring whether the operation involves a wider network or resale racket. Flipkart has confirmed its cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
