Five Suspects Arrested for Vandalism and Theft at Kano Schools

NSCDC nabs suspects involved in school property theft and power equipment vandalism

Operatives from the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have apprehended five individuals involved in the destruction and theft of property at two secondary schools and a power installation in the state.

According to a statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the suspects were arrested for their roles in the looting and vandalization of facilities at Government Secondary School, Unguwar Rimi, and Government Secondary School, Unguwa Uku, both located in the Tarauni local government area.

The arrested suspects include Abdulbasi Usman (19), Yahaya Isa (20), and Abubakar Sadiq Abdullahi (20), all from Unguwar Rimi in Kumbotso Local Government Area. Also arrested were 20-year-old Adamu Murtala from Unguwa Uku in Tarauni.

The suspects are accused of stealing roofing sheets, iron rods, iron buckets, 20 three-seater cushion chairs, mats, seven windows, and two ceiling fans. They also took essential school documents and learning materials. According to SC Abdullahi, efforts are underway to recover the stolen items, which were allegedly sold to a receiver now in NSCDC custody.

In a separate operation, another suspect, 17-year-old Alasan Inusa from Gidan Tela in Dambatta local government area, was arrested for vandalizing power equipment. Items recovered from him include six insulators, a three-meter aluminum cable, and various nuts and brass components.

SC Abdullahi confirmed that investigations have concluded, and the suspects will soon face charges in court.
