Five Security Guards Arrested in Angul Stockyard Shooting

Two alleged thieves shot dead during theft attempt

Angul Police have arrested five security guards in connection with the shooting death of two alleged thieves at a stockyard in Lingarakata near Pipeline Road, Talcher police station area. The incident occurred early on Wednesday.

According to police, a group of 12-13 individuals attempted to steal materials from the stockyard, which stored electric tower supplies. On spotting the intruders, one of the security guards opened fire using a 12-bore double-barrel gun, killing Dibyaranjan Parida (17) and Janardan Naik (20) on the spot.

The arrested guards are:

Ganeswar Sahoo (45)

Abhimanyu Sahoo (35)

Parshuram Parida (50)

Kishan Manjhi (25)

Anandi Manjhi (48)

Police stated that the case has been registered under BNS sections 103(1) for murder, 238 for destruction of evidence, and 3(5) for common intention. The firearm used, along with an empty cartridge, has been seized for investigation.

Authorities added that it is now up to the court to determine the circumstances under which the guards opened fire, resulting in the deaths.
