Meerut: Police have solved the brutal murder of a youth in Zakir Colony with the arrest of five men accused of beating him to death with bricks and stones less than two weeks ago.
City Superintendent of Police Ayush Vikram Singh said the arrests were made near Bajaut underpass late Wednesday as part of a crackdown on criminals under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Meerut.
The arrested men have been identified as Arshad, Aqib, Faiz, Sadiq, and Aman, all residents of Lohia Nagar and Lisari Gate areas.
The case pertains to the murder of Aqil alias TT, whose brother Kafeel had filed a complaint on October 26 after Aqil’s body was discovered in Zakir Colony.
Initial suspects named in the complaint were found innocent, but further investigation using technical evidence and intelligence inputs led police to the real culprits.
According to officials, on the night of October 25, Aqil and the accused gathered at a field owned by one Hari in Zakir Colony, where they consumed alcohol. A heated argument broke out, and the five allegedly attacked Aqil with bricks and stones, killing him on the spot before fleeing.
Police later recovered the murder weapons — two stone pieces and a brick fragment — after the accused led investigators to them. Some of the arrested men were previously involved in robbery and attempted murder cases.
The arrests were the result of a joint operation between the Lohia Nagar Police and the District SWAT team. All five accused have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
