ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) — Five men have been arrested in connection to a shooting that left three men injured in downtown Roanoke early on May 3, 2025.
At approximately 1 a.m., officers responded to a parking lot in the 200 block of Market Street SE. While they found evidence of the shooting, no victims were at the scene. Shortly after, three men arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds, all of whom are expected to recover.
According to Roanoke Police, the initial investigation revealed that 27-year-old Ke’ajhae Tyrik Cooper was the primary aggressor. Cooper, a Roanoke resident, was later arrested and charged with possession by a felon and shooting in the city after being discharged from the hospital.
Police identified four other suspects:
Tyrese Justin Hairston, 26, of Roanoke, was charged with reckless handling of a firearm and shooting in the city. He was arrested on Thursday evening after his photo was released during the search for him.
Douglas Troy Hale, 37, of Roanoke, faces charges of shooting from a vehicle, reckless handling of a firearm, and shooting in the city.
Aundele Maurice Burwell II, 22, of Roanoke, is charged with shooting in public and reckless handling of a firearm.
Deshaun Eric Hunt, 24, of Roanoke, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, reckless handling of a firearm, and shooting in the city.
Chief Scott Booth made a statement emphasizing the city’s commitment to ensuring safety: “Anyone who endangers our downtown by bringing violence or chaos will be found and held fully accountable. Our community deserves safety, and we will not tolerate reckless behavior.”
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities continuing to search for additional leads.
