In a significant ruling, the Special Judge for CBI cases in Ahmedabad has sentenced five individuals to five years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine totaling Rs 23.5 lakh, for their involvement in a fraudulent insurance claim case. The accused include Dinesh Parshotamdas Patel, Sanjay R. Chitre, Manan D. Patel, Shishupal Rajput, and Amar Singh Bialbhai, the former ASI of Mehlol check post under Godhra police station.
The case stemmed from an investigation by the CBI in January 2023. It was found that the accused had conspired with others to sanction fraudulent insurance claims by forging documents. The claim, which was approved by SA Parmar, the then Senior Divisional Manager of New India Assurance Company Limited (NIACL) in Navsari, resulted in a loss of Rs 4,89,488 for the company.
The fraud involved fake documents, including photos of non-existent accidents and a false FIR filed by Amar Singh, who was a public servant at the time. The claim was made by Manan Dinesh and Patel, owners of Pre-Chem Industries, for their chemical business. They worked with surveyor Sanjay R. Chitre and recovery agent Shishupal Rajput to make the claim appear legitimate.
Following a lengthy investigation and charges filed in June 2005, the court sentenced the individuals, upholding the gravity of their criminal conspiracy in the fraudulent insurance scheme.
