Police arrested five individuals within 24 hours in connection with the brutal murder of 30-year-old e-rickshaw driver Mohammad Shahzada.

Shahzada’s body was discovered on Monday in a water body near the Fatehpur security bund under the jurisdiction of Didarganj police station. The body showed multiple stab wounds and head injuries caused by blunt force trauma.

Rural SP Vikram Singh said in a press conference that preliminary investigations revealed Shahzada was in a relationship with the sister of one of the accused. Seeking revenge, two brothers and their three friends conspired to kill him.

Ranveer Kumar, SHO of Didarganj, identified the accused as brothers Sumit Kumar and Sujit Kumar, along with their friends Sunny Kumar, Paramjeet Kumar, and Aaditya Kumar. According to the SHO, the brothers booked Shahzada’s e-rickshaw under the pretext of attending a birthday party. They hid weapons inside a gift box, took Shahzada to an isolated location, attacked him, and then disposed of his body and the vehicle in the water body.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), employing scientific methods, apprehended all five suspects within 24 hours and recovered the weapons used in the crime, including a chisel, chopper, and pipe wrench.

Meanwhile, the residents of Hajiganj expressed outrage and staged a protest against the killing.
