Five Arrested With Firearms, Stolen Gold Worth Rs 36 Lakh

Julwaniya police bust armed theft gang in Barwani

Barwani, Madhya Pradesh: Police in Barwani district arrested five persons and seized illegal firearms, cash, and stolen gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 36 lakh during an operation in the Julwaniya police station area, officials said on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, a Julwaniya police team intercepted the suspects while they were moving through the area carrying illegal weapons, Superintendent of Police Jagdish Dabar said. During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to having committed a theft at a deserted house in Ahilyanagar district of Maharashtra and were returning with the stolen valuables.

Police seized a 9 mm pistol, one country-made pistol, three other country-made firearms with live cartridges, Rs 1.38 lakh in cash, gold ornaments worth Rs 32 lakh, silver ornaments worth Rs 4 lakh, tools used in the theft, a blank cheque, and a mobile phone.

The arrested accused were identified as Hiru Bhuriya (30), Kalam Bhuriya (42), Pyarsingh Alawa (26), Magarsingh alias Mangalsingh Ajnare (30), and Arif Bhuriya (22), all residents of Kakadwa village under Tanda police station in Dhar district.

All five accused were produced before a court and sent on police remand. Police have informed Maharashtra authorities regarding the inter-state theft case. Further investigation is underway to determine their involvement in other crimes.
