Under the ongoing Operation Dawn 2, local police arrested five alleged drug peddlers and seized over 140 grams of suspected heroin from Banderdewa and Naharlagun areas in two separate operations.
The first operation occurred in Prem Nagar, where a police team led by OC Inspector Krishnendu Dev raided the area based on actionable intelligence. During the raid, Sariful Islam, 36, of Bihpuria, Assam, was arrested, and 48.7 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. Sariful Islam’s arrest led police to two other suspects: Shaik Farid, 24, of Lakhimpur, and Ashraful Islam, 23, of Laluk. After a brief chase, the two were arrested in Kankarnallah, and 24 grams of heroin was found concealed in soap cases. Additionally, a Bajaj motorcycle believed to have been used in trafficking was seized. A case under sections 21(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act was filed.
In a separate operation, Banderdewa Police, assisted by 138 CRPF Bn personnel, intercepted a Maruti SX4 at a checkpoint. The police arrested Kirry Riba, 23, of Nirjuli, and Techi Maj, 27, of Lekhi village, and recovered 66.75 grams of heroin from Riba’s possession. A case was registered under section 21(b) of the NDPS Act, along with section 3(5) of the BNS Act.
Both operations were closely supervised by SP Mihin Gambo and SDPO Rishi Longdo, who are overseeing the crackdown on drug trafficking in the region.
