Kamla Nagar police on Saturday arrested five accused, including a minor, in the sensational murder of 24-year-old Lalu alias Arjun Yadav near Nehru Nagar Square. The accused allegedly killed Lalu at a hookah lounge, stuffed his body in a box, and dumped it in the Veerpur Stop Dam in Bilkisganj.
The juvenile suspect was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, while the other accused were presented before the local court. Three main suspects were sent to police remand until Monday to recover the victim’s pistol, which they claimed to have disposed of in the dam. Another accused, responsible for disposing of Lalu’s bike, was sent to jail.
Police cited a 5-year-old feud as the motive. Lalu, a resident of Shabri Nagar, had around two dozen serious criminal cases registered against him. The main accused reportedly had a longstanding conflict with Lalu, who allegedly harassed his sister and picked frequent fights. Tensions escalated when the accused, Shubham, opened a hookah lounge in the area. Lalu allegedly arrived at the lounge armed with a pistol to threaten him.
The case also raises questions over police vigilance, as Lalu, despite having multiple cases and outstanding arrest warrants, was roaming freely with a firearm, allegedly threatening local residents.
