Kujang Police arrested five persons in connection with a house burglary that occurred in Janardanpur village on Thursday. The case came to light when Sabitri Pradhan, a resident of the village, lodged a complaint alleging that her house had been burgled while her family was away in Cuttack.
According to the complaint, the burglars gained access to the house by climbing onto the roof and forcing open a stair door. Once inside, they broke open a lock and stole gold ornaments and other valuables. The family realized the theft upon returning home.
Based on the complaint, Kujang police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Police detained a suspect from the same village, who, after interrogation, revealed the involvement of other individuals in the crime. This led to the arrest of four more individuals.
During the investigation, stolen items including gold ornaments, vehicles, mobile phones, and cash amounting to Rs. 21,500 were recovered from the accused.
The arrested individuals were identified as Deb Prakash Mohapatra, Hemant Kumar Jena, Mitu Gochyat, along with the receivers of the stolen gold, Sukant Jena and Bansidhar Gochyat.
The police seized a car, three motorcycles, four mobile phones, and a substantial quantity of gold ornaments. All arrested persons were forwarded to court after the completion of their arrests.
Tirtol SDPO Chinmaya Rout confirmed, “We have successfully recovered the stolen items and made all the necessary arrests. The case is under investigation, and we are further analyzing the connections of the suspects.”
