by Ananya Mehta

A police operation led to the arrest of five individuals involved in a gang that looted unsuspecting victims by posing as fake income tax officers. The gang members were arrested on Tuesday, and police recovered stolen money, seized the vehicle and mobile phone used in the crime, and apprehended all suspects.

The robbery took place on March 19 in Bamhni village, Kondagaon, where four gang members in an SUV forcibly abducted Ajay Manikpuri. They then proceeded to rob his house and shop, making off with Rs 5 lakhs, along with CCTV equipment, a DVR, and a mobile phone. The following day, Manikpuri’s wife filed a complaint at the Kondagaon police station, reporting the abduction and robbery.

After tracking the SUV’s location to Raipur, the police arrested the car’s driver and owner, who confessed to the crime during interrogation. They revealed that greed for money drove them to commit the robbery.

Kondagaon SP Y Akshay Kumar confirmed that five gang members were arrested, including the mastermind, Lekh Ram Sinha. The other accused, Prabhdeep Singh and Priyank Sharma, explained that Sajendra Baghel from the same village had tipped them off about the money in Manikpuri’s house. The accused initially attempted the robbery on March 15, but Manikpuri was not at home. On March 19, they succeeded in carrying out their plan after bringing him from Raipur to Bamhni.
