Peel Regional Police have arrested five individuals, including a mother and her two sons, in connection with an extensive arms and drug smuggling operation. The arrests followed a traffic stop in July, when a 20-year-old man was found with a firearm, leading to an investigation by the Specialized Enforcement Bureau. The group, primarily of Punjabi descent, includes Narinder Kaur Nagra (61), her sons Navdeep Nagra (20) and Ravneet Nagra (22), as well as Ranveer Araich (20) and Pavneet Nahal (21).
The investigation, dubbed Project Sledgehammer, spanned several months, with police executing five search warrants across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) between July and September. The operation led to the seizure of 11 firearms, 32 prohibited magazines, over 900 rounds of ammunition, 53 Glock selector switches, and a variety of drugs. The accused now face nearly 160 charges related to trafficking, firearms offenses, and other violations.
Chief Nishan Duraiappah praised the efforts of the officers involved, emphasizing that the operation dismantled a dangerous criminal network responsible for contributing to the ongoing violent crime issues in the community.
