The Firozabad Police in Uttar Pradesh recently cracked a Rs30-lakh theft case that had shocked the victim beyond the loss of valuables. The theft occurred in the Rasoolpur police station area, where jewellery worth nearly Rs28 lakh was stolen.
Following a thorough investigation, police arrested two suspects — Sarif Khan and Rashim Khan — and recovered the stolen jewellery along with Rs2,34,000 in cash and an illegal firearm.
The incident took place on December 3 when the victim, Asad Ahmed of Rasoolpur, was attending a wedding with his family. During this time, thieves broke into his house and stole valuables. The operation was meticulously timed to coincide with his absence.
Sarif Khan, who masterminded the crime, had hidden Rashim Khan in the victim’s warehouse prior to the theft. Rashim used a duplicate key and a saw to break into the house while Sarif updated him via phone about the victim’s movements.
The breakthrough came after police reviewed footage from about 50 CCTV cameras, which led to the identification and arrest of the suspects near Fatehabad Bridge on December 6. The recovered items included gold jewellery, cash, a firearm, and live cartridges.
Interrogations revealed that both suspects were in debt and had planned the theft as a desperate measure. Sarif Khan, a relative of the victim, exploited his knowledge of the victim’s absence to plan the crime.
Firozabad SP City, Ravi Shankar Prasad, praised the police for solving the case in just three days and confirmed Sarif Khan’s conspiracy with Rashim Khan.
