LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) — A Laredo man was arrested on felony theft charges after police said he stole a woman’s cellphone and was found carrying a bag of perfumes still in security cases.

According to Laredo Police, officers responded to a theft report at around 10:30 p.m. on November 4 in the 4100 block of San Bernardo Avenue. A woman told police that a man she knows as “Simpson” had stolen her cellphone before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.

Police identified the suspect as 44-year-old Filiberto Martinez, citing prior encounters. A lookout was issued, and officers later spotted Martinez riding a bicycle near Ortiz Street and San Bernardo Avenue.

When detained, Martinez was found in possession of the stolen cellphone. Officers also noted he was wearing a jacket with a price tag still attached and carrying a bag full of perfumes and colognes still in security cases, police said.

Martinez was arrested and charged with two counts of theft with two or more previous convictions, authorities confirmed.
