Ferozepur police arrested Vijay Singh (21), a resident of Jalalwala village, for possession of 2.042 kg of heroin during a special operation on Friday.
The operation was part of Punjab Police’s ongoing campaign against drug smugglers, gangsters, and anti-social elements, led by DGP Gaurav Yadav. Police teams in Ferozepur, under SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, have been carrying out intensive surveillance and routine checks across the district.
During the operation, a team from Makhu police station, led by SHO Jagdeep Singh, stopped a suspicious individual. Vijay Singh attempted to flee but was apprehended. The contraband heroin was recovered from his possession. A case was registered under Section 188 of the NDPS Act at Makhu police station on November 13.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that Vijay Singh allegedly sourced the consignment from Chheharta Road, Amritsar, via a known supplier. Authorities are continuing investigations to identify the supplier network and trace the distribution chain linked to the accused.
