Felon William Merriweather Arrested for Fentanyl Trafficking

Owensboro Police Seize Drugs, Cash, and Firearms in Raid

A Street Crimes Unit (SCU) investigation led to the arrest of a convicted felon in Owensboro, Kentucky.

On March 26, officers from the Owensboro Police Department (OPD) Emergency Response Team and SCU detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1300 block of Gardendale Avenue. Their investigation identified 27-year-old William Merriweather as a suspected fentanyl trafficker.

During the raid, police seized:

Suspected fentanyl pills

Synthetic marijuana

Over $1,000 in cash

A 9mm handgun and an AR-style rifle

Merriweather, previously convicted on multiple felony charges in 2017, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for crimes including first-degree and second-degree robbery, receiving stolen property (firearm), and promoting contraband.

Now, he faces new charges, including:

Trafficking in a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl) – Enhanced

Trafficking in Synthetic Drugs – Enhanced

Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon

Drug Paraphernalia Possession

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to combat fentanyl distribution in the area.
