Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismantled a high-value fake gold syndicate based in Nairobi’s upscale Runda estate, arresting four suspects during a targeted raid.
The suspects — Felix Odiambo Otieno, Derrick Odhiambo Omore, Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed, and Moses Odhiambo Auma — were captured at a residence on plot number 685, Glory Valley Lane. The coordinated operation was carried out by officers from the DCI Nairobi Region and Gigiri Sub-county unit.
The bust followed a complaint from a foreign national who was conned out of $200,000 (approximately KSh 25.9 million) in a fraudulent gold transaction.
During the raid, detectives recovered 9.5 kilograms of counterfeit gold bars, a weighing scale, a digital gold-testing device enclosed in a plastic briefcase, and multiple documents believed to be tied to the scam.
Several suspects managed to evade arrest during the operation. However, the four men taken into custody are currently under investigation as authorities work to identify and apprehend additional accomplices.
The DCI has warned the public, especially international investors, to be vigilant and verify the authenticity of such deals to avoid falling victim to sophisticated scams.
