FCT Police Make Significant Strides in Criminal Prosecutions

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command announced a significant achievement in 2024, with a total of 1,077 suspects arrested and 128 convictions secured for various criminal offenses. This was revealed in a statement by the police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.

According to Adeh, 388 suspects were arraigned for criminal activities throughout the year, with notable convictions in several areas:

Kidnapping: 38 suspects were arraigned, with 21 convicted.
“One-chance” robbery: 16 cases, leading to 11 convictions.
Homicide: 32 cases, resulting in 8 convictions.
Fraud: 178 cases, with 58 convictions.
Cultism: 19 cases, yielding 11 convictions.
Burglary: 26 suspects arraigned, with 8 convictions.
Car theft: 21 cases, leading to 11 convictions.
The command also handled 268 armed robbery cases, with 132 suspects arrested. Other arrests included 216 suspects in 104 reported kidnapping cases, 71 suspects in 263 “one chance” robbery cases, and 15 suspects in 32 cybercrime cases. Additionally, the command made 78 arrests in 68 homicide cases.

Victim rescues included 68 kidnap victims and 19 “one-chance” robbery victims. Noteworthy recoveries included 376 firearms, including AK-47 magazines, and N36.85 million from kidnappers and N68.55 million from armed robbery suspects.

In a similar report, the Enugu State Police Command apprehended 230 suspects involved in robbery and kidnapping in 2024. The command also made significant recoveries, including over 200 firearms, 21 AK-47 rifles, and 124 vehicles.

These figures highlight the continued efforts by Nigerian police forces to tackle criminal activities and enhance public safety.
