A 59-year-old woman, Fay Roberts, has been labeled a “reprehensible” fraudster after stealing £43,000 from Ifor Williams Trailers to support her online lover from Tinder. Roberts siphoned off company funds to cover a fictitious building contract in the Philippines for her businessman boyfriend, “Charles.”
Unbeknownst to her, Charles was a con artist, as was another man named “Mick,” who falsely claimed he could secure a £260,000 tax refund for her. To finance these scams, Roberts, an administrator at the company’s head office near Llangollen in Corwen, Mid Wales, took cash amounts of up to £5,000 at a time. Her job involved handling customer cash and depositing it with a security firm, with only herself and one senior manager having access to the funds.
Since starting her position in November 2021, Roberts drew suspicion from the finance manager, Emma Cleland, who noticed discrepancies in the financial records. Despite several attempts to discuss the anomalies, Roberts consistently made excuses, claiming she was “busy.”
