A father-son duo was arrested in a bizarre “dead man walking” case after they staged the son’s death in order to fraudulently claim a Rs 1 crore insurance payout. The plot was uncovered following a routine investigation into an alleged road accident reported on March 5, 2025, at Najafgarh Police Station.
The father, Satish, initially informed the police that his 27-year-old son, Gagan, was hit by a bike and received first aid at a local hospital. However, when police asked for Gagan’s written statement and a medical examination, he mysteriously left the police station and never returned.
Six days later, on March 11, Satish contacted the investigating officer and claimed that Gagan had died on March 6, had already been cremated in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, and had not undergone a post-mortem. He requested that the police register an FIR for the accident and filed a complaint against the investigating officer.
DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh noted that something seemed suspicious about the case, prompting a deeper investigation. Police reviewed CCTV footage, which revealed that the accident was staged. In the footage, Gagan was seen coordinating with the biker, Manish, to fake the accident.
Under interrogation, Manish revealed that the scheme was orchestrated by advocate Manmohan, alias Pardeep, who helped the duo fake Gagan’s death. The plan was to evade loan liabilities and claim a large insurance payout under Gagan’s name.
As a result of the investigation, both Satish and Gagan were arrested, along with Manish. Authorities are continuing to investigate the role of advocate Manmohan in the scam.
