A 28-year-old lab technician, Angel Jasmin, was allegedly strangled to death by her father, Francis (58), in Omanappuzha, Alappuzha district, Kerala, on the night of July 1. Angel worked at Alappuzha Providence Hospital.
The police have arrested Francis, while Angel’s mother Jessi Mol (Sindhu) and uncle Aloshius have also been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
According to Mannacherry Circle Inspector, the family often had arguments about Angel’s habit of going out late at night. On July 1, a verbal dispute escalated into a physical confrontation during which Francis strangled Angel with a bath towel. Her mother reportedly assisted in the crime.
Angel was separated from her husband after a failed marriage and had been living with her parents.
The family delayed reporting Angel’s death to authorities, initially claiming it was a heart attack. It was Angel’s uncle who eventually informed the police. A First Information Report was filed under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for unnatural death.
Medical examination at Chettikad Taluk Hospital revealed marks on Angel’s neck, leading to Francis’s confession. Her body was transferred to Vandanam Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
