Farooq Aman, 26, has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force (STF) for allegedly impersonating the Chief Minister’s Personal Secretary to dupe people. Aman, a resident of Sahriya village in Azamgarh’s Nizamabad area, was arrested from the Kamta tri-section of Lucknow late on Thursday.
According to an STF statement, Aman was part of a larger organized gang involved in online gambling and exam fraud. He reportedly promised to help people pass competitive examinations in exchange for money and also ran an online gambling operation, furthering his fraudulent activities.
During the arrest, the STF seized two mobile phones, an Aadhaar card, and several documents from Aman. A case has been registered against him at the Cyber Crime Commissionerate Police Station in Lucknow, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
This arrest comes shortly after a similar case in June 2024, when the STF nabbed another notorious criminal, Vivek Sharma (alias Bantu Chaudhary), for impersonating the CM’s Secretary and defrauding government officials via fake phone calls.
The STF’s ongoing crackdown on such fraudsters highlights the growing threat of cyber-related crimes, especially those involving high-profile impersonation and fraud targeting vulnerable individuals.
