DEARBORN, MI — A 57-year-old Dearborn man has been charged with human trafficking in connection to the death of Suzan Ferreira, a 42-year-old woman from Brazil, whose body was discovered in a Washtenaw County field in June 2024.
Ferreira had been reported missing on June 24. On June 30, officers from Northfield Township located her body in a field in the 7800 block of Earhart Road. While the cause of death has not been determined, authorities are treating the case as suspicious, and the homicide investigation remains ongoing.
During the investigation into Ferreira’s disappearance, police traced her last known whereabouts to the home of Fareed George Hajjar in Dearborn. According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Hajjar transported Ferreira on June 22 to a hotel on 11 Mile Road in Novi, where she allegedly engaged in sexual acts for money.
Hajjar is charged with:
Prostitution – Transporting a Person
Facilitating Travel Services for the Purpose of Prostitution
Human Trafficking-Related Offenses
He was arraigned in 19th District Court on Wednesday and was granted a $50,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for July 16.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy commented, “I hope these charges are a wake-up call to those who choose to commit crimes like the ones we have charged today. We have not forgotten Ms. Ferreira.”
She added that while Hajjar is facing human trafficking charges, the search continues for the person or persons responsible for Ferreira’s death.
The Washtenaw County Medical Examiner has not been able to determine the cause of death at this time, according to prosecutors.
