A tragic family feud led to the brutal killing of 24-year-old Shravan Barve from Sattari, Goa. His father, Devidas Barve (64), elder brother, Uday Barve (34), and daily wage worker Vasudev Nakul Ozrekar (43) were arrested on Saturday in connection with the murder.
The murder, which occurred due to ongoing familial tensions, was initially shrouded in mystery. Shravan had been living in Valpoi, estranged from his family due to the continuous disagreements and petty issues whenever he visited his family home in Honda. On Friday, the police detained and questioned 18 people from Valpoi in connection with the crime.
Shravan’s body was found outside the family house at Nagargao in Sattari around 8:30 AM on Tuesday. While the family initially suspected a natural death, Uday Barve quickly suspected foul play after the autopsy confirmed that Shravan died due to asphyxia, caused by manual compression of the neck. The police then registered a murder case.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Devidas and Uday, following eyewitness accounts. The police believe that the murder stemmed from deep-rooted animosity between the family members. Ozrekar, the worker involved, was remanded to police custody for further questioning. The police investigation is ongoing, with Valpoi PI Videsh Shirdokar leading the case under the supervision of DySP Jivba Dalvi and SP Akshat Kaushal.
