Delhi Police busted a fake robbery plot involving over Rs 6 lakh by arresting three men, including Rahul, a 24-year-old cash collector working for a Delhi shopkeeper. Rahul conspired with his childhood friend Dharmender alias Aryan (22) and an associate, Rishu Verma (26), to fake the robbery and misappropriate the money.
On July 26, Rahul reported a robbery near Ishwar Bhawan, claiming he was attacked and robbed at gunpoint while carrying about Rs 7 lakh in cash. However, police found inconsistencies in his story and determined the injuries were self-inflicted.
CCTV footage showed Rahul handing over the cash to two men near Naya Bazar before calling police alone. During questioning, Rahul admitted the conspiracy with Dharmender and Rishu.
The trio was arrested in Gauripur, Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, while attempting to flee to Kedarnath. Police recovered Rs 4.14 lakh cash, Rs 1.5 lakh from Dharmender’s bank account, Rs 1 lakh from his house, Rs 50,000 from a taxi driver hired for the trip, and a mobile phone bought with stolen money. The motorcycle used in the crime was also seized.
The case highlights the careful investigation and use of technology by police to uncover the fraud.
