Delhiās IGI Airport Police have successfully apprehended Bhupendra Singh, alias Vicky Nagar, an agent involved in a major fake passport scam. Singh, a resident of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested after his involvement in helping a couple attempt to travel to the USA via Canada using a fraudulent passport.
The incident took place on June 18 when 67-year-old Ravindra Singh arrived at the airport, allegedly en route to Canada. Immigration officials noticed discrepancies in his documents and began questioning him. The passenger, despite appearing to be an elderly man, was found to be using a fake passport, which had altered his identity. The youth, whose real name was revealed to be Guru Sewak Singh from Lucknow, was only 24 years old.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Usha Rangni, the officers became suspicious when the passenger’s voice did not match his stated age. Singh had attempted to disguise his voice to match that of an elderly person. After a thorough interrogation, Singhās real identity was uncovered, and he was handed over to the IGI Airport Police for further questioning.
During interrogation, Singh revealed shocking details about the fake passport operation. He confessed that he had been in contact with an agent named Jagdish Singh, who promised to send him and his wife to the USA via Canada. The deal was finalized for Rs60 lakh, with Rs30 lakh paid as an advance. The remaining amount was to be paid after reaching the USA.
As part of the arrangement, Jagdish Singh had arranged a fake passport for Singh, changing his appearance to that of a 67-year-old man. The fraud was exposed when Singh arrived at the airport, where the authorities flagged his documents for further scrutiny. His wife, realizing the situation, fled the airport after the fraud was uncovered. She was subsequently caught by the police.
Following Singhās arrest, the police launched an investigation into the broader scam, which led to the arrest of several other agents involved in the operation. A police team, supervised by ACP VK PS Yadav, conducted extensive searches to apprehend the agents. The team, including SHO Sushil Goyal, Inspector Kedar, and Head Constable Dalbir, arrested four additional agents: Jagjit Singh (alias Jaggi), Gurumukh Singh, Parambir Singh, and Kirandeep Singh, all residents of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Singh’s involvement in the scam, which had been orchestrated by a network of agents, was soon revealed. After tracking down his location, Bhupendra Singh was arrested from Uttar Pradesh.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to uncover more about the network of agents involved in the fraudulent passport operation. The agents face charges related to immigration fraud, falsification of documents, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
This arrest has once again highlighted the ongoing issue of illegal immigration schemes that rely on fraudulent documents and agents offering fake services for overseas travel.
