In a major breakthrough, Bongaigaon Police arrested three individuals, including a fake journalist, for their alleged involvement in multiple thefts carried out while impersonating police personnel. The arrests were made in Dispur, Guwahati, following a swift operation based on intelligence inputs.

The prime accused, Imam ul Haq, reportedly posed as a journalist to gain public trust. Along with his accomplices, Sanjay Das and Pragyan Narjari, he allegedly carried out thefts at night while dressed in police uniforms.

Officials said the trio executed a theft on November 5 in an apartment in New Bongaigaon, misleading residents by wearing police attire to gain easy access to the building.

During the operation, police recovered a significant cache of stolen items, including three live cartridges, seven gold chains, nine mobile phones, six rings, two silver coins, and Rs 98,000 in cash. The police uniforms used in the crimes were also seized.

All three accused are currently under interrogation as authorities continue to investigate the extent of their criminal network. Police indicated that further arrests may follow based on the suspects’ disclosures.
