Mumbai, Maharashtra: The Bandra police have arrested Fahid Mehmood Qadri, a builder accused of cheating a 55-year-old polio patient, Yasmin Abdul Saudagar, of Rs1.30 crore by promising her a flat in an under-construction building or a double refund if the project was not completed within 15 months.
Fahid Qadri, who had been absconding for over two-and-a-half years, was recently apprehended and produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody. Bilkis Qadri and Mehmood Qadri have also been named as co-accused in the case.
How the Fraud Happened:
Yasmin, a resident of Mahim, was introduced to Fahid and Mehmood Qadri in 2016 through her brother, Ashfaq Saudagar.
The accused claimed to be builders with multiple projects in Bandra and sought investment for a project on Perry Cross Road.
They convinced her to invest Rs1.30 crore, offering either a 1,050 sq ft flat or high returns.
She paid Rs50 lakh in cash, Rs50 lakh via cheque, and later RS30 lakh in cash.
False Promise and Non-Delivery:
As per the agreement, she was to be allotted Flat No. 601 within 15 months (between June 2020 and September 2021), failing which she would receive Rs2.60 crore.
However, the construction was never completed, and the flat was not delivered.
Despite repeated requests, the accused neither handed over the property nor refunded the money.
Police are continuing the investigation to identify additional victims and financial trails linked to the accused.
