On New Year’s Eve, joint inspections by the excise department, police, and Narcotics Control Bureau targeted drug abuse at lodges, hostels, spas, and railway stations across Ernakulam city. The coordinated drive resulted in the seizure of over 4.8 kg of ganja and charas and the arrest of three individuals.
At lodges in Ernakulam North, South, and Edappally, officers led by the excise range inspector and the Kochi city district anti-narcotic special action team uncovered 560 grams of charas, 190 grams of hybrid ganja, and 52 grams of dried ganja in a hotel room in Edappally. Fabin Francis (27) of Moothakunnam was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
At Ernakulam North railway station, Abdul Hamid Biswas (41) from Murshidabad was caught with 4 kilograms of ganja and subsequently remanded. Another arrest was made near Infopark, where Sreeram (24) from Kakkanad was found with 52 grams of ganja.
These operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse during festive seasons and maintain public safety.
