In a successful drug operation on Saturday, excise officials arrested Mohammed Aman (21) from Mamangalam , by75 zolpidem tablets, a sedative-hypnotic drug typically prescribed for insomnia. The arrest was made by a joint team of the State Excise Enforcement Squad, Ernakulam Excise Intelligence, and the Ernakulam Excise Special Squad.
Along with the zolpidem tablets, a smartphone was also seized from Aman during the raid. The authorities are investigating whether the smartphone contains information related to drug distribution or possible contacts involved in illicit activities.
Zolpidem, a controlled substance, is widely abused for its calming and sleep-inducing effects, leading to a growing concern about its misuse. The authorities have emphasized their commitment to cracking down on the illegal distribution of such drugs in the region.
