A special squad of the Excise Department arrested P.V. Mirshad, a Thamarassery native, on March 21, 2025, for his suspected involvement in a series of synthetic drug trafficking cases. Mirshad, who was also a close friend of Shanid, the man who tragically died after swallowing MDMA while attempting to evade police, was caught with 58 grams of MDMA.

Mirshad, also known as Masthan, was arrested while waiting for his clients at Iringadanpally in Kozhikode. According to Excise officials, he was a key figure in local drug peddling gangs operating in the Puthuppadi and Thamarassery areas.

The arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on synthetic drug trafficking in the region, with the authorities intensifying their efforts to curb the spread of illegal drugs. Further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of Mirshad’s involvement in the drug trade.
