A Los Angeles-area doctor was tragically murdered in an execution-style shooting last summer, and prosecutors now claim that the crime was orchestrated by his ex-wife. Ahang Kelk, 53, has been charged with murder after allegedly hiring a hitman to kill her ex-husband, Hamid Mirshojae, following years of contentious legal disputes.
Mirshojae, 61, was fatally shot on August 23 as he was walking from his medical clinic in Woodland Hills to his car. Authorities have arrested 41-year-old Evan Hardman, who is accused of being the shooter, along with two suspected accomplices.
According to investigators, Kelk initially hired Hardman and one accomplice to assault Mirshojae with baseball bats in an attack that left him fearful for his safety. Months later, she allegedly hired Hardman to carry out the fatal shooting.
Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman described the crime as “chilling” and emphasized that justice will be sought. Kelk was set to be arraigned on Tuesday, but it is unclear who is representing her at this time.
Kelk and Mirshojae divorced in 2009 after a tumultuous marriage and years of bitter court battles over real estate and child support for their two children. At various points, both parties sought restraining orders against each other, each accusing the other of threats on their lives.
In 2017, Kelk was accused of faking an assault at her home after a court investigation revealed she had attempted to deceive a former spouse out of a Malibu condo they owned together. This, along with her troubled history, made her a prime suspect in Mirshojae’s death.
Though Kelk initially dismissed police suspicions as “all lies” in August, she later organized a memorial for her ex-husband in September. Dressed in black, she was seen weeping and consoling family and friends. At the time, she told reporters, “I’m speechless. It’s horrible. Words cannot explain what has happened.”
As the investigation continues, Kelk faces charges related to the murder, and authorities are focused on bringing justice to Mirshojae’s family.
