A former Ukrainian military officer, Serhii K., has been arrested in Italy under an international warrant issued by German prosecutors for his alleged role in the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline sabotage. Investigators say Serhii K. led a covert team consisting of two soldiers and four civilian divers, recruited by a special Ukrainian military unit, to place explosives on the undersea gas pipelines that supply Russian gas to Western Europe.
The sabotage caused significant damage to the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, triggering extensive investigations across Europe. While some officials have ruled out Russian involvement, the case continues to stir political tensions. German authorities are working closely with Italian police, and Serhii K. is expected to be extradited to Germany to face charges related to the attacks.
